Amy's is an old favorite from the organic aisle of my upstate supermarket. I was suprised to find it in the city, so I picked it up to see if it was as I remembered.
Thick texture and mouthfeel. Somewhere halfway between pureed and finely sliced. This texture is uncommon, most salsas attempt to go "chunkier" to emulate a fresh salsa, or puree it entirely. According to the jar, "tomato puree" is an ingredient, so my assumption is they mixed finely chopped vegetables and spices with a pureed tomato base. This texture makes it easy to scoop larger amounts, even though the Garden of Eatin' chips typically have a tough time scooping.
Savory taste, adequately salted but not too much. The tomato base gives it a sweetness that makes the jar easy to finish. Tough to detect other flavors beyond a hint of lime or garlic. A cilantro taste appears later on, giving a hint of "freshness," but it's still very much a jarred, processed salsa.
Almost no spice whatsoever, despite classification as "medium". Sinuses felt a touch sniffly by the end so perhaps some was present, but I'd put this pretty far on the mild end of the spectrum.
